Mauro Caracuzzo Biography
Mauro Caracuzzo (b. Rome, 1963) lives and works between Rome and San Gemini (Umbria). He graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts Rome (RUFU) in 1982.
Post-graduation Mauro worked as an art teacher, a commercial designer of eyeglasses and for smaller craft companies specialising in furniture and lamps. In 1997, Mauro abandoned commercial work to devote himself exclusively to his art practice, which explores painting, sculpture and the boundaries that exist between conventional disciplines. The same year, Mauro opened his first atelier in Rome, where he could create and exhibit his artworks publicly.
Since the late-1990’s, Mauro has exhibited widely, with solo exhibitions at the former Interno Rosso Gallery (Rome) and Montalcino’s Patronal Halls. His art and design work has also been featured at fairs such as Macef (Milan) and Abitare Il Tempo (Verona).
In 2019, Mauro moved to a large studio space in San Gemini, so that he could be closer to nature.
Nel 1982 Mauro Caracuzzo si laurea all’accademia di belle arti di Roma. Dopo la Laurea insegna Arte per alcuni anni.
In questi stessi anni, lavora come designer per aziende nella produzione di occhiali, e per piccole produzioni artigianali nel settore mobili e lampade. Nel 1997 Mauro decide di abbandonare ogni compromesso e di dedicarsi esclusivamente all’arte. Ora il suo scopo sarà esplorare la pittura, la scultura, la ceramica con lo scopo di vivere l’arte come un’avventura totale completamente esposta ad ogni possibilità. Sempre nel 1997 apre il suo primo Atelier a Roma dove realizza, espone e vende i suoi lavori.
Dal 1998 ai primi anni del 2000, Mauro esporrà a diverse fiere e mostre, come il Macef ( Milano, salone internazionale del mobile ), Abitare il tempo, ( Verona , design e artigianato di alta qualità ). Sempre negli anni ’00 esporrà a diverse mostre personali nella Galleria Interno Rosso di Roma e nelle sali patronali del comune di Montalcino.
Nel 2019 trasferisce il suo atelier a San Gemini ( Umbria ), per avere una relazione più intensa con la natura e per avere a disposizione uno spazio più grande dove lavorare.
Artist Statement
"I experience art as a total inclusive adventure that encompasses everything from painting to digital art. Every day, I strive to make sense of the complex by collecting fragments and piecing them together like a puzzle. And each day, it is a search for beauty that drives me to pursue that process.
I paint with a childlike passion, balanced between uncertainty and enthusiasm, and with a single purpose, to immerse myself in the deep and mysterious creative subconscious. I entertain ideas and images, interacting with them almost in symbiosis. Brushes, like any other artistic tool, act as an extension of the body and the hand can paint with speed and precision when guided by spiritual concentration and connection.
Working in a wide range of mediums and employing interdisciplinary techniques continues to inspire my practice. Oil paints, watercolours, ceramics and sculptures all cross paths and cross-pollinate. What I am aiming for, which I aspire to, is an equilibrium of colour and form, figurative and abstraction, matter and the immaterial. I am attracted to each in equal measure, traversing an artistic Möbius band, with no real beginning and no end in sight. "Vivere l'arte come un'avventura totale, che non esclude nulla, dalla pittura all’arte digitale. Ogni giorno so che devo semplificare la complessità, so che devo raccogliere frammenti e unirli. Ogni giorno so che devo ricominciare sempre dalla Bellezza.
Dipingo fin da bambino, in bilico tra incertezza ed entusiasmo, con un unico scopo: provare ad immergermi in certe zone profonde e misteriose della creatività. Con l’arte inseguo idee e immagini ed entro in simbiosi con esse. Avverto che i pennelli, come qualsiasi altro strumento di lavoro, sono un prolungamento del corpo e che la mano può dipingere veloce e sicura quando è guidata dalla concentrazione spirituale.
